Welcome, Paige Ravenscraft

Please join us in welcoming Paige Ravenscraft to the Healthy Acadia team!

Paige joins us as a Food for All intern in Hancock County. She is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Political Science, minors in Sociology and Food studies, and starting master's classes in the Fall for Policy, Planning, and Management at University of Southern Maine.

Paige is passionate about improving food access and strengthening community connections. In 2023, she received the David Fullam Social Justice Award from the USM Sociology department for outstanding out-of-class engagement in curriculum. She previously interned with the Locker Project, a hunger-relief agency in Portland, ME, and has worked and volunteered at the USM Oakhurst Campus Food Pantry. This summer, Paige is supporting the gleaning program, the Maine Senior FarmShare initiative, and coordinating volunteer efforts in Hancock County.

Paige, what prompted you to join the Healthy Acadia team?

The breadth of Healthy Acadia's program and the type of work I'd be doing, such as getting to work outside and interacting with community members on a regular basis.

What most inspires you about Healthy Acadia's work and your new role?

As the Food For All intern one of the most inspiring things I see on a daily basis is Healthy Acadia's 'fill in the gaps' approach to community organizing. So often charity organizations misjudge what their community needs and end up doing work that's unhelpful or potentially harmful. Instead, Healthy Acadia asks community partners how HA can support them in the goals they're already working towards. This type of organization reinforces the structure of our communities and helps create longer-term, stronger community partners.

What most inspires you on a personal level?

Joy! As many people as possible being able to experience the joys of life and love. It inspires me to see other people finding joy in the work they are doing.

What is your favorite thing to do, or place to be, in Maine, and why?

I love being in my garden, especially with my Mom and dogs keeping me company from our porch. It's such a lovely way to recharge and reconnect with the earth and each other.

My younger sister is my heart and joy. The pride I feel for her inspires me to do the things I love.
