Northern Bay Organics Introduces "Pay What You Can" Model to Enhance Community Food Access
In response to rising food costs, Northern Bay Organics in Penobscot is excited to announce their new "pay what you can" model for this season at their farmstand. As they transition to a community-driven, non-profit farm, this model allows them to provide fresh, organic vegetables to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.
By removing financial barriers, Northern Bay Organics aims to ensure that all members of the community have access to healthy, nutritious food. Their commitment to this mission is reflected in their long-standing partnership with Healthy Acadia’s Gleaning Initiative. Northern Bay is focused on regenerative agriculture practices and sustainable permaculture design, providing wholesome, nutritious, and pesticide-free foods to the community.
This season, Northern Bay Organics is launching a new donation-based initiative, replacing their previous CSA shares program. Through this initiative, they hope that community members who are able to pay more will help subsidize their neighbors’ access to healthy, organic produce. Additionally, they will be increasing the amount of food grown for and distributed to area food security organizations, in partnership with the Gleaning Initiative.
We are thrilled to support this innovative model that increases access to fresh, healthy produce for all. Northern Bay Organics' dedication to community and sustainability is an inspiring example of how local initiatives can make a significant impact on food security and health.
