Welcome, Nina Duggan

Please join us in welcoming Nina Duggan to the Healthy Acadia team!

Nina Duggan joins us as Team Leader for our COVID-19 Vaccine Equity Youth Team. Nina and an enthusiastic team of Washington County middle- and high-school students are working to prepare, plan, and launch direct outreach and media campaigns aimed at promoting vaccine equity, improve access to accurate information about the COVID-19 vaccines, and reduce vaccination hesitancy among youth and young adults ages 15-29.

Nina earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Ecology with a focus in Environmental Sciences and Environmental Law from College of the Atlantic. They served as part of the United Nations Environment team in Bonn, Germany doing work with cross-border migratory species treaties and information spreading. Nina has provided public outreach, testimony, and lectures related to environmental and marine science, climate change, and infrastructure policy impact.

Nina, what prompted you to join the Healthy Acadia team?

I have been doing safe COVID practices promotion and vaccine promotion on a personal level for the majority of the pandemic, doing my best to fight misinformation and allay concerns for friends, family, and anyone that social circle might come into contact with. Doing this in a more professional sense with a broader reach is spectacular, we need all hands on deck to fight COVID-19 and I'm ecstatic to be able to do my part.

What most inspires you about Healthy Acadia's work?

Public health equity and education is something I'm very passionate about, the outreach and communication at a very human level is very inspiring and feels like it makes a huge difference. Healthy Acadia's work removes some of the confusion, fear, and sort of "ivory tower" feel of medicine, bringing it to the public at a more empathic level.

What most inspires you on a personal level?

My resume may seem like it's more wildlife focused, but my goal is to do work around environmental justice and the intersection of public health and environmental issues. The work Healthy Acadia does is of immense importance in these areas, especially with how polarized even basic health practices have become in today's political climate.

What is your favorite thing to do, or place to be, in Maine, and why?

I love to be in and around Acadia National Park, it is one of my favorite places on earth and gives me so much peace and happiness even after really hard days.

Nina resides in Trenton with her sweet little dog, Artemis. Contact Nina by email at nina.duggan@healthyacadia.org.
