Recovery Coach Program Celebrates Five Years
Five years ago this month, Healthy Acadia's Denise Black and Terri Woodruff completed their Recovery Coach Trainer certification through Connecticut Center For Recovery Training (CCAR). In early 2017, they began training interested community members to serve as recovery coaches.
Recovery coaching is an innovative peer mentoring program that utilizes trained Recovery Coaches to guide and mentor others through their own recovery process. Recovery coaches are individuals who may be in established recovery, a friend or family member of someone in recovery, or a recovery ally. They offer strengths-based support, helping to remove barriers and obstacles to recovery by serving as personal guides and mentors for people seeking or in recovery. Recovery Coaches listen, normalize feelings, and provide a strengths-based approach for a more fulfilling future for people who have active substance addictions, as well as those already in recovery.
Since 2017, Denise and Terri have conducted 58 CCAR trainings and have trained a total of 697 people. We now have a network of Recovery Coaches serving in communities in nine Maine counties through our Maine Alliance for Recovery Coaching and Maine Recovery Core programs.
“Conducting training for people and systems that are passionate about serving those affected by substance use disorder has been such an amazing opportunity for growth for myself, our communities and a joy like no other!”
