Welcome, Lauren Sachs

Please join us in welcoming Lauren Sachs to the Healthy Acadia team! 

Lauren joins us as a Maine Recovery Core Intern. Maine Recovery Core Interns offer direct peer support with the aim to improve recovery success among individuals facing substance use disorders.

Lauren provides recovery coaching and recovery supports in Washington County. She holds a Families Futures Downeast Certificate of Completion in Family Studies and is working with Caring Community Collaborative and Downeast Community Partners on a project about childcare in Washington County. Lauren previously worked with Downeast Health Research Collaborative, and the Downeast Public Health Council to support health literacy in Washington County.

In May 2022, Lauren will graduate from the University of Maine at Machias with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Psychology & Community Studies and Mental Health and Rehabilitation Technician (MHRT) Certification.

Lauren, what prompted you to join the Healthy Acadia team?

I was serving as a volunteer at the Safe Harbor Recovery Residence in Machias when I learned about the Recovery Core internship program.

What most inspires you about Healthy Acadia's work? 

I am passionate about community support systems and seeing families recover and grow.

What most inspires you on a personal level?

I personally draw inspiration from my past and my mum, Ann Sachs, who was an advocate for substance use prevention as well as a person who struggled with substance use until her passing in 1999. I am also inspired by Healthy Acadia's dedication to supporting all paths to recovery and look foward to being part of the team.

What is your favorite thing to do, or place to be, in Maine, and why?

I love to be with my family and go hike the trails and find places to swim in Maine. Maine is full of so much beautiful wilderness.

I have the love my family and friends. I have a therapy dog named Ava who loves ride along whenever she can & meet everyone. This past year I have been working on several community research projects and I really love doing research that benefits our community!
