Welcome, Dawn James

Please join us in welcoming Dawn James to the Healthy Acadia team!

Dawn joins us as a Maine Recovery Core Intern. Maine Recovery Core Interns offer direct peer support with the aim to improve recovery success among individuals facing substance use disorders.

Dawn provides recovery coaching in Hancock County through Healthy Acadia’s INSPIRE Recovery Center in Ellsworth. She previously served as a volunteer at the Center before signing on as a Recovery Core Intern.

Dawn, what prompted you to join the Healthy Acadia team?

I love helping people in recovery. The Healthy Acadia staff is so welcoming. [There is] a lot of positivity at the center.

What most inspires you about Healthy Acadia's work?

Recovery is amazing, it’s an indescribable feeling when you’re able to help a fellow person who is recovering from substance or alcohol addiction. The work that Healthy Acadia Team has done in the community has helped so many people in need, it’s unbelievable. It is a rewarding feeling to be an employee of INSPIRE Recovery Center and Healthy Acadia.

What most inspires you on a personal level?

I am able to help myself with my own journey in Recovery as well as another on their journey. The fact that I may be a factor in helping to save someone's life is amazing. It is a happy feeling at the end of the day.

What is your favorite thing to do, or place to be, in Maine, and why?

One of my favorite things to do is spend time with my three amazing sons as well as my two precious grandchildren. I love to go camping with my family back home in Washington County. It brings back many family memories of growing up.

A native of Baileyville, Dawn currently resides in Ellsworth.
