About the Ellsworth Meditation Center
The Ellsworth Meditation Center (Vajravidya Downeast) is a Buddhist meditation and study center in the tradition of the Dalai Lama. Our main focus is on the practice of mindfulness meditation and the study of the Buddha’s teachings on wisdom and compassion, which helps us develop a steady, clear, and compassionate mind. The center was founded in 1990 under the direction of the Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche. Thrangu Rinpoche, who passed away in 2024, was one of the most highly regarded Buddhist scholars, teachers, and meditation masters.
