Dear Friend,

Did you know? Healthy Acadia is celebrating 20 years of making health happen. Together with partners and generous community members like you, we are building healthy and vibrant communities across Downeast Maine.

Over the last two decades, Healthy Acadia has grown from a single-mission coalition focused on tobacco use prevention to serve as a multifaceted community health and wellness hub and a public health resource in Hancock and Washington counties and beyond. We provide prevention, recovery, and wellness services for individuals and families, coordinate workplace health policies and learning opportunities for businesses and municipalities, and facilitate both long-term planning and rapid response to emerging regional health needs.

With your support, Healthy Acadia will continue to work throughout our communities to create real and lasting impacts.

Here are just two examples:

~ A newly blended family, struggling to adjust, reaches out to Healthy Acadia. The parents are connected to couples’ therapy, supported with tools to navigate and communicate about differing parenting methods, and provided with resources to support their daughters in building a sibling bond. One daughter who is struggling withself-confidence and self-esteem is connected with a therapist and funded to participate in therapeutic horseback riding. The family learns how to incorporate mindfulness exercises into their lives.

~ While more than 1 in 6 Mainers use tobacco products, Washington County has an even higher rate of tobacco use than the state as a whole. And alarmingly, vaping use among youth is rising rapidly. Healthy Acadia works closely with area partners to reverse these trends, including the City of Eastport, which recently passed a tobacco-free resolution for all public outdoor spaces. “It was an incredibly rewarding experience working with [Healthy Acadia] to adopt this policy,” shares Eastport City Councilor Hailley Bradbury. “We are now able to move forward as a community in a direction that aligns with and promotes healthier living for our citizens.”

With your generous support, Healthy Acadia can continue providing these and other critically important services, including cancer, diabetes, and other chronic disease prevention and support services; substance use recovery; youth empowerment; physical activity promotion; and access to healthy food for all. We invite you to celebrate 20 years of partnership in our shared vision of building healthy and vibrant communities together across Downeast Maine.

Will you help to ensure that Healthy Acadia continues to serve as a vital and robust community health hub for many years to come?

Please consider making a financial contribution today. Your gift in any amount will help to ensure that Healthy Acadia’s creative, collaborative approach to community health continues. Your donation will make it possible for people of all ages and from all walks of life across our region to more easily access healthful resources and for Downeast Maine to thrive.

Thank you,

Martha Wagner, Board Chair
