Welcome, Dawn James
Please join us in welcoming Dawn James to the Healthy Acadia team!
Dawn joins our Emergency Housing Supports Team as support staff for our seasonal overnight warming center, located at Healthy Acadia’s INSPIRE Recovery Community Center in Ellsworth.
Support staff at the seasonal overnight warming center provide a warm and welcoming place for guests and connect them to additional community resources such as food pantries, recovery coaching, warm clothing, and other social supports. Our team supports people by building trust, listening, and collaborating with community partners.
Dawn, what prompted you to join the Healthy Acadia team?
I am in recovery and I want to help others that are seeking recovery. I also want to help people that live with mental illness. These vulnerable populations often are unhoused and to be able to offer them a warm place to be warms my heart.
What most inspires you about Healthy Acadia's work?
Healthy Acadia offers support to many people, they always welcome people with open arms.
What most inspires you on a personal level?
Helping unhoused individuals and seeing them happy. There are so many people in need and any and all help is appreciated.
What is your favorite thing to do, or place to be, in Maine, and why?
I love spending time with my grandchildren, my three boys, and the rest of my family.
