Quitting Tobacco for Good, for You and Your Baby
For people who are pregnant or postpartum, quitting tobacco can feel overwhelming. The right support can make a real difference.
Quitting at any point during pregnancy or postpartum brings meaningful benefits for both parent and baby. On the very first day a pregnant person stops using tobacco, their baby starts receiving more oxygen, which supports healthy growth and development. Quitting also lowers the risk of complications during pregnancy and helps protect newborns from exposure to secondhand smoke after birth. For parents, it reduces the risk of serious diseases and supports overall health and recovery.
No one has to face quitting tobacco alone. Maine’s tobacco cessation resources are designed to meet people where they are, offering judgment-free support and practical tools every step of the way.
Programs like the Maine QuitLink and Baby & Me Tobacco Free Program™ offer free, confidential help tailored to this stage of life, including one-on-one coaching, personalized quit plans, access to nicotine replacement therapies like patches or gum to manage cravings, and more.
