Folklore Farm and Healthy Acadia Launch 2026 CSA with Flexible Farmstand Model
CHERRYFIELD, Maine. Healthy Acadia and Folklore Farm invite community members to sign up for the 2026 growing season Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, offering flexible access to fresh, locally grown produce while supporting food security efforts in Washington County.
Folklore Farm, located in Cherryfield, is a diversified vegetable farm and a core part of Healthy Acadia’s Healthy Food for All initiatives to improve access to nutritious, affordable food across Washington and Hancock counties.
The farm’s CSA model allows members to purchase farmstand credit up front and shop throughout the season, offering greater flexibility than traditional weekly share programs.
“We’re so much looking forward to another great growing season here at Folklore Farm. I can hardly wait to see cars in the farm store parking lot again with folks leaving the store with bags full of delicious veggies,” said Dan Cunningham, Farm Manager at Folklore Farm. “Soon enough we’ll be welcoming back old friends and new to join in on this season's bounty. We all need some farm fresh greens!”
Community members who sign up by April 22 can take advantage of an early bird rate of $250 and receive $300 in farmstand credit (a 17% bonus). After April 22, the CSA cost increases to $275.
Members can use their credit at the Folklore Farm farmstand from May through late October or early November, selecting from a variety of seasonal produce. Purchases are tracked in a simple ledger system, and members will receive periodic email updates on their remaining balance.
Unlike traditional CSAs, which typically provide pre-packed weekly shares, this farmstand-style model allows members to choose what they want, when they want it, helping reduce food waste and better meet household needs.
Additional benefits for CSA members include opportunities to purchase bulk storage crops in the fall, the option to add more credit during the season at a discounted rate, and regular updates on available produce and farmstand hours via email and social media.
“We are so proud and excited to have joined forces with Folklore Farm last year,” said Katie Freedman, Healthy Acadia’s Community Health and Food Programs Director. “Together we are making a big impact on food access across Washington County while protecting an important agricultural resource in Cherryfield.”
Folklore Farm is part of a broader effort by Healthy Acadia to strengthen local food systems and expand access to healthy food across the Downeast region. Food grown at the farm also supports community-based distribution, including food pantries and nutrition programs.
CSA members also have the option to contribute toward shares for neighbors in need. Tiered pricing allows participants to support partial or full CSA shares for other community members, helping ensure more families can access fresh, local produce.
“Every CSA membership helps sustain this work,” said Jasmine Haines, Healthy Acadia’s Food Programs Manager for Washington County. “And when people are able to give a bit more, it helps open the door for others in our community to enjoy fresh, locally grown food. Increasing access to local food supports farmers, nourishes families, and creates a healthier, more resilient community for all.”
Community members can join by mailing their payment or using an online payment option through Healthy Acadia’s website. Early sign-up is encouraged to secure the discounted rate.
