Two AmeriCorps VISTA Opportunities Available in Washington County

Do you enjoy helping your neighbors and serving your community? Maybe you enjoy being outdoors? Consider these opportunities to assist with local food rescue efforts.

Healthy Acadia is partnering with Goodwill Industries of Northern New England to offer a 10-week, full-time Summer Associate VISTA service opportunity. In addition, Healthy Acadia is teaming up with Hunger Free America (HFA) to host a 12-month, full-time VISTA service opportunity. The two VISTA service members will assist the Downeast Gleaning Initiative with food rescue efforts and will support other food security programming in Washington County.

AmeriCorps Summer Associates serve 10-week terms over the summer months for organizations working to support increased food distribution to families in need. Associates will receive a stipend of $513 bi-weekly. Upon successful completion of the service term, Summer Associates are eligible for an education award valued at $1,300 that may be used towards furthering education, or a $345 cash payout.

Hunger Free America (HFA) VISTA 12-month service members support food security efforts including volunteer recruitment and management, collaborating with various community partners, and fundraising efforts. HFA VISTAs receive a stipend of $954/month and an education award valued at $6,095 that may be used towards furthering their education or receive a $1,800 cash payout upon successful completion of the term.

AmeriCorps VISTA service is a rich and rewarding experience that provides an opportunity to give back to your community. Service adds valuable work experience to your resume or to your college application.

The deadline to apply for either position is early May. Interested applicants should contact Katie Freedman at Katie@healthyacadia.org
