Maine QuitLink Now Offers Tools for Teens
According to a recent survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 2.55 million U.S. middle and high school students reported current (past 30-day) use of a tobacco product in 2021. Youth tobacco use is unsafe in any form, and a new-to-Maine program has resources available to help. The Maine QuitLink recently launched My Life, My Quit, a tobacco cessation and treatment service for youth ages 13-17 years.
My Life, My Quit provides web-based services and tailored educational materials, as well as free and confidential coaching through phone, chat and texted-based sessions with a tobacco treatment specialist for youth who use combustible, smokeless, and electronic tobacco products and want to quit. My Life, My Quit was developed with youth input and is currently offered in more over 20 states, including Maine.
The My Life, My Quit Program is for young people ages 13-17 who want help to quit all forms of tobacco, including vaping, smoking, or chewing. My Life, My Quit Coaches help youth:
• Develop a quit plan
• Cope with stress
• Learn about nicotine
• Get ongoing support
