Mindfulness Tips for a Calmer, Kinder Holiday Season
Adapted from an article by Sonya Connelly, Community Outreach Coordinator.
The holiday season is a special time for many of us—a chance to celebrate, connect, and enjoy meaningful moments with the people we care about. But it can also bring full schedules, strong emotions, and the pressure to keep up with traditions or expectations. Practicing mindfulness can help us slow down and stay grounded so we can appreciate the season more fully.
To support a little more peace and presence this time of year, we’re sharing a simple set of mindfulness tips. Each one offers a gentle way to take care of yourself, manage stress, and stay connected to what matters most.
Set Intentions
Think about what you want the holidays to mean for you—family time, rest, giving back, or something else. Let that intention guide where you focus your energy.
Practice Gratitude
Take a moment each day to notice a few things you’re thankful for. Writing them down or saying them out loud can shift your mindset in a positive way.
Be Present
Try to give your attention to whatever you’re doing, whether it’s decorating, cooking, or spending time with loved ones. Putting down devices, even for a short time, can help create meaningful moments.
Create Quiet Moments
Make space for stillness—meditation, deep breathing, a walk outside, or simply sitting with a warm cup of tea. Even a few minutes can help you feel more centered.
Honor Your Emotions
The holidays can stir up a mix of joy, stress, nostalgia, or sadness. All of these feelings are normal. Give yourself permission to feel what you feel without judgment.
Be Kind to Yourself
Rest when you need to. Say no when you need to. Offer yourself the same compassion you’d give a friend if things don’t go as planned.
We hope these reminders bring a bit of calm, comfort, and steadiness as we move into the holiday season. Wishing you moments of ease and kindness in the weeks ahead.
