Maine Senior FarmShare Participant Enrollment Opens April 1
The participant enrollment period for the Maine Senior FarmShare program begins April 1 for the 2025 season.
Maine Senior FarmShare is a federally funded program administered by the Maine Department of Agriculture with grant funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to support lower-income older adults in accessing healthy food while also ensuring that Maine farmers are fairly compensated for the food they grow. Local farmers are subsidized to provide deliveries directly to seniors who enroll in the program. Healthy Acadia works to support the Maine Senior FarmShare Program by encouraging farmers in our communities to participate and recruiting eligible seniors to sign up.
By participating in Maine Senior FarmShare, income-eligible Maine seniors or disabled adults can receive $50 worth of credit to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, fresh-cut herbs, and raw honey at select local farms and farmers’ markets. More than 100 farms in Maine, distributed across all 16 counties, are authorized to participate in the program.
To be eligible for Maine Senior FarmShare, a person must be a Maine resident; be 60 years old or older, 55 years old or older for Native Americans, or 18 years old or older for disabled adults living in congregate housing with a cafeteria; and meet income guidelines. Enrollment is first-come, first-served while funds remain available.
