Julian Kuffler joins Healthy Acadia's Board of Directors

Please join us in welcome Julian Kuffler, MD MPH, to Healthy Acadia’s Board of Directors.

A graduate of Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health, Dr. Julian Kuffler delivered primary medical care on Mount Desert Island for nearly forty years, from pre-natal care, labor and delivery through end of life. Now retired, he most recently served as the Director of Care Coordination for Mount Desert Island Hospital, and previously served as the Medical Director of the Community Health Center.

Dr. Kuffler, what makes Healthy Acadia's mission powerful for you? What interests or inspires you most about our work?

The goal of educating young and old about maintaining health and restoring health once lost , then maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

What most inspires you on a personal level?

Being able to have practiced the full scope of Family Practice for individuals and their families, and then developing programs that can provide those services on a community-wide basis.

What is your favorite thing to do, or place to be, in Maine, and why?

Being outside on Mt. Desert and sailing the coast of Maine weather permitting. When this is not possible, woodworking.

I feel very lucky to have lived and worked on Mt Desert Island for the last 40+ years. It is a terrific place. Unfortunately, Hancock and Washington counties have or are becoming a very difficult place for young working families to move to, buy a home, raise a family and educate them, and maintain a healthy year-round community. I hope that Healthy Acadia can be part of a creative solution.
