Colorectal Screening Saves Lives

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. The CDC recommends regular colorectal cancer screening for all adults beginning at age 45, or earlier if recommended by your healthcare provider. Screening tests can find polyps - abnormal growths in the colon or rectum that may become cancerous - so they may be removed before turning into cancer. Screening tests also help detect colorectal cancer earlier, when treatment works best.

Click here to watch a recent WMTW-TV 8 interview with Angela Fochesato, Healthy Acadia’s Cancer Patient Navigator, exploring the signs and symptoms to look for, what you can do to reduce your risk, and treatment options available.

If you are aged 45 years or older and have no healthcare coverage, are underinsured, or face high co-pays or deductibles with your health insurance plan, our Colorectal Cancer Screening Support Fund (CCSSF) can help. The Fund provides mini-grants for Washington County residents who need financial assistance to access colorectal screening tests - including fees associated with the test itself or transportation to access screening services - and for whom a one-time grant of less than $1,000 will ensure access to needed screening.
