Exciting New Training for Maine’s Community Health Workers

Healthy Acadia is excited to share news about a new training opportunity designed especially for Community Health Workers (CHWs) across Maine.

Our HEART project team has partnered with MCD Global Health to develop the Community Health Worker Behavioral Health Specialty Track. This self-paced, online training is being created to strengthen CHWs’ skills in supporting individuals and families who are facing behavioral health and substance use challenges. The official launch date is still to be announced, and more details will be shared soon.

The training will include three short, interactive modules. Each module focuses on a key area of learning:

  • Foundations of behavioral health, including common conditions and challenges

  • Essential support skills, such as trauma-informed care and how to respond during a crisis

  • The CHW role as advocate and connector, helping people access care and community resources

Real-life scenarios, case studies, and practical tools will be woven throughout the course to make the learning relevant and easy to apply in everyday work. Participants will receive a certificate of completion for each module.

When the training launches, it will be offered at no cost, with a strong focus on making it accessible to CHWs and organizations across Maine. Healthy Acadia and MCD Global Health are also exploring long-term options to keep the training free, up to date, and supported in the years ahead.

We look forward to sharing more soon and celebrating this new resource for Maine’s community health workforce.
