Healthy Acadia, a healthy community coalition serving the Downeast Acadia region of Maine (Hancock & Washington counties), seeks an experienced Nutrition Educator to join a dynamic team passionate about making it easier for all people to lead healthier lives. Reporting to the Food Programs Director, the Maine SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educator position promotes nutrition-based education to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligible people. We are currently hiring a full-time educator to serve northern and eastern Washington County. 

Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate and implement evidence-based nutrition programs for SNAP eligible people in accordance with USDA SNAP-Ed guidelines. Organize and deliver nutrition education services; help SNAP-Ed participants understand how to eat a healthy diet on a limited food budget, use appropriate educational strategies and implementation methods to reach people eligible for SNAP benefits. Programming may include Cooking Matters and Cooking Matters at the Store classes; Ten Tips Adult Nutrition education series; Pick a Better Snack and Act classroom-based nutrition education in schools; Eat Well Play Hard nutrition education in child cares; and policy, systems, and environmental change strategies. Due to COVID-19, programming will be offered both in-person and online. The Nutrition Educator must meet grant deliverables and expectations, including data collection and reporting requirements; and promote nutrition through social marketing materials. Assist Food Programs Director with evaluation, data tracking, and reporting. 

Qualifications and Experience Sought:  

  • Strong nutrition education experience and/or training.

  • Classroom management experience with children and/or adults. 

  • Experience working with low-income populations.

  • Understanding of the emergency food system, federal and state nutrition benefits.

  • Excellent computer skills. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work professionally and accurately, within deadlines.

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple assignments and priorities. 

  • Team player with a high professional standard, positive attitude, and flexibility. 

  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience. RD or Bachelor’s degree in public health, nutrition, or related field preferred.

This is a 40 hour/week position with competitive salary & benefits. Salary range $40,000-$42,500. Frequent travel throughout Washington County required. Full COVID-19 vaccination by the prospective employee’s start date is a requirement of this position.
