INSPIRE Recovery Center Manager
Beth oversees the day-to-day operations of Healthy Acadia’s INSPIRE Recovery Center in Ellsworth. She provides guidance and support for staff and volunteers, and ensures that INSPIRE is a positive, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space for community members accessing the Center’s programs, resources, and facility.
William (Bill) Buehner
Maine Recovery Core Intern Advisor and Recovery Coach
Bill serves as our Maine Recovery Core Intern Advisor, leading the mentor team and providing support and guidance to interns who require extra assistance. He also servers as a Recovery Core Recovery Coach in Washington County, Maine, in partnership with Regional Medical Center at Lubec.
Healthy Acadia’s Maine Recovery Core interns offer direct peer support with the aim of improving recovery success among individuals facing substance use disorders. In addition, interns build community awareness through outreach and education and develop local and regional recovery resources.
Organizations throughout the state serve as host sites for one or more Recovery Core interns who support clients within the service area of the host site. Host sites include healthcare centers, law enforcement sites, correctional facilities, community organizations, and others. Recovery Core interns are trained as recovery coaches to support individuals at various points along their recovery path and in a variety of settings.
Denise Black
Co-Director, Maine Alliance for Recovery Coaching;

As Co-Director for the Maine Alliance for Recovery Coaching (Maine-ARC) program, Denise provides overall leadership, building on Healthy Acadia’s highly successful Downeast Recovery Coach Program to expand the model to Piscataquis, Somerset, and Waldo counties, Maine. Denise provides training, supervision and technical assistance for systems development, and support for data collection systems. She ensures that Maine-ARC will implement effective, far-reaching volunteer-based peer recovery coaching programs and systems in a variety of settings that promise to build healthier communities and help people succeed in their recovery journeys.
Denise has been a leader in efforts to improve community health for more than fifteen years, serving as community health coordinator and director for the Blue Hill-based Healthy Peninsula program from 2008 until 2014, when she joined Healthy Acadia as coordinator of our Drug-Free Communities Initiative.
Denise's extensive professional and personal experience spurred her transition to recovery coach training and recovery coaching systems work in January 2017. Denise is passionate about building healthier communities and multiple pathways to recovery for all.
Caroline Bloss, LMSW
Recovery Projects Director

Caroline provides management for Healthy Acadia’s collaborative programs that serve to expand and enhance support for multiple pathways to recovery from substance use disorder. Her work includes management of the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP), a regional substance intervention and recovery initiative led by Healthy Acadia in collaboration with the Downeast Substance Treatment Network and funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). In addition, she also manages the PROSPER Initiative which supports individuals with substance use disorder who are pregnant and/or parenting and their support networks across Downeast Maine. PROSPER is funded by HRSA through the Rural Health Care Services Outreach Grant and is led by Healthy Acadia in collaboration with hospital partners across the region.
Caroline facilitates collaboration and coordination with partner agencies, supports project staff in both Washington and Hancock counties, and participates in strategic planning, program development, implementation, and evaluation.
Tammy Burgess
Staff Accountant
Tammy provides collaborative support in several areas of Healthy Acadia’s financial management, including the general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and grant contract account reconciliation reporting.

Tracey Carlson
Communications Director

As Communication Director, Tracey is responsible for the broad oversight and guidance of Healthy Acadia’s public-facing communications. She collaborates closely with both our program and administrative teams to seamlessly convey our core message and programmatic objectives, elevate public awareness of the impactful work we do, and ensure that every aspect of our messaging reflects Healthy Acadia’s mission and resonates with our community.
At the forefront of maintaining the Healthy Acadia brand and public image, Tracey strategically enhances Healthy Acadia's visibility and influence across a spectrum of platforms, including local print, television, radio, online outlets, and social media. Her efforts are always in alignment with our programmatic targets and overarching mission.
As a versatile writer, editor, graphic designer, and photographer, Tracey crafts content for various mediums, including Healthy Acadia's e-newsletter, website blog, Annual Report, and other print and digital publications. Alongside this, she maintains and updates our website, manages advertising and media outreach, steers our digital communication strategies, and curates a variety of print, digital, and audio-visual materials for Healthy Acadia’s programs and events.
Shannon Cherry
Maine SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educator - Washington County
Shannon provides coordination for nutrition education and obesity prevention initiatives in accordance with USDA SNAP-Ed guidelines. She sustains and develops collaborative partnerships with diverse community entities to assist in the improvement of physical activity and nutrition education policies and practices. Shannon works with USDA-approved nutrition education curricula to help SNAP-eligible households gain knowledge and skills to eat healthily on a limited budget.
Alyne Cistone
Executive Producer, Downeast Diversity Podcast

Alyne Cistone is the Executive Producer and Curator of the Downeast Diversity podcast, which is aired on WERU on the third Tuesday of the month. Co-host of Maine Public Television’s Elevating Voices, Alyne is the Founder and CEO of Global Tides Consulting, a Maine-based Consulting Firm specializing in strategic support for the multicultural workspace for businesses and organizations. She also volunteers with several community-serving organizations across Maine.
Given her ability to bridge cultures, Alyne is a sought-after adviser and serves on the Board of Trustees at College of the Atlantic where she Co-Chairs the Board DEI Taskforce.

Sonya Connelly
Community Outreach Coordinator

Sonya provides support for staff and volunteers participation in community events to share information about Healthy Acadia’s programming and services. She provides information and resources for schools, businesses, organizations, and community members regarding specific public health topics, including safety protocols and health resources available for community members as we navigate the post-pandemic unwinding of the temporary social and health supports associated with the national COVID-19 emergency health declaration. Sonya also provides support for communication and development activities across multiple venues.

Housing and Community Resource Navigator

Tracy provides community resource navigation at the INSPIRE Recovery Center and supports the Ellsworth Police Department’s Project HOPE initiative. She engages residents at the Hancock County Jail to broker resources and support re-entry into the community. She collaborates with a variety of community members and partners to support Healthy Acadia’s housing initiatives across a variety of programs.

Julie fosters collaborative partnerships and provides oversight of implementation of Maine Prevention Network strategies related to the prevention of substance and tobacco use in children and adults in Hancock and Washington counties, Maine.
Julie also provides development support, including special events planning and coordination, curation of community impact data and narratives, and donor database management.

Maria provides leadership for Healthy Acadia’s collaborative programs focused on health promotion, prevention, and management of chronic disease, and substance use prevention. Her work includes direction and oversight of initiatives focused on the promotion of active community environments, school health, healthy environments, lead poisoning prevention, tobacco-free communities, substance use prevention, and positive child and youth development.

Jocelyn provides leadership and coordination of Healthy Acadia’s human resources and general operations activities. Elsie is responsible for building and sustaining a highly effective and comprehensive community health coalition by empowering community participation, good governance, staff leadership, resource development, and sound fiscal management. She ensures that Healthy Acadia is responsive and adaptive to local community health needs and priorities while ensuring effective communication and coordination with federal, state, and local community and public health partners.
Elsie's responsibilities include the overall leadership of Healthy Acadia, community mobilization, program management, financial management, ambassadorship, and resource development.
Sandy Fortin
Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Coordinator

Sandy facilitates Healthy Eating and Active Living programming across Hancock and Washington counties. Partnering with childcare centers, schools, and communities, she works to incorporate evidence-based strategies for preventing obesity, with a focus on the importance of establishing healthy habits beginning in childhood. Sandy’s efforts are supported through Maine Prevention Network, Obesity Prevention.
Katie Freedman
Community Health, Food, and Equity Programs Director

Katie provides leadership for Healthy Acadia’s collaborative programs and initiatives that support local food systems, community food security, public health nutrition, local food procurement, community gardening, farms, and farmers’ markets. Her work includes guidance and oversight of Healthy Acadia’s Food for All initiatives, including our Maine SNAP-Ed and Let’s Go! 5210 programs, Downeast Farm to School, the Downeast Gleaning Initiative, and other initiatives focused on increasing food security in Hancock and Washington counties by providing citizens of all ages with access to healthy food, regardless of income.
Katie sustains high-impact collaborative relationships with partner organizations, volunteers, and consultants across Hancock and Washington counties. She directs program development, implementation, and evaluation, and also supports strategic planning, grant writing, budgeting, and contract management.
Leslie Goode
Project Manager - Greater Mount Desert Island Region Community Health Needs Assessment 2023-2024
Leslie is project manager for a greater Mount Desert region community health needs assessment, and will be with us in a part time capacity through April 2024. The assessment will support MDI Hospital, Healthy Acadia and other community partners in our work to identify priority health needs and develop strategies that will improve the health of the people we serve in communities across Hancock County’s greater MDI region.
Regina Grabrovac
Food Programs Manager - Washington County

Regina oversees the development and management of the Downeast Restorative Harvest Program, a community garden project in partnership with the Maine Department of Corrections and the Washington County Jail. She also supervises our new Food Programs Coordinator's efforts and AmeriCorps Service Members. Regina has extensive agricultural experience, including the operation of two CSA farms in Maine and the inspection of hundreds of farms for organic certification for state and international agencies.
When not at work, she can be found at home growing and raising food or spending time outdoors hiking or backpacking.

Maegan coordinates Healthy Acadia's Community Recovery Coach Program in Hancock County. She provides ongoing support, continuing education, and program coordination for recovery coaches and actively recruits new volunteers to grow the program to meet the needs of the communities of Hancock County.
As a core member of our Recovery Team, Maegan strives to strengthen our coaching program and encourage collaborative community engagement to help those who are seeking or have been affected by substance use.

Her work includes direction and oversight of initiatives to increase access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT), promote and expand community recovery coaching services, reduce stigma, and promote increased access to housing and supportive community services in an effort to build robust, recovery-ready communities.

She directs program development, implementation, and evaluation, and also supports strategic planning, grant writing, budgeting, and contract management.
Becky Guyton
Finance Director
Becky provides provides collaborative and supportive financial leadership to the managers of Healthy Acadia’s programs and partnerships, ensuring the success of the programs and responsible compliance with their contractual requirements. She ensures Healthy Acadia’s Federal and State grant compliance and reporting, maintains accounts receivable/payable, receipts, payroll, ledgers, financial reports, and tax filings. Becky also serves on Healthy Acadia’s senior leadership team, providing key guidance and support to the organization as a whole.
Ursula Hanson, LCSW
Mindfulness, Early Childhood, and Community Health Navigator

Ursula serves as our Mindfulness, Early Childhood, and Community Health Navigator. As part of her work, Ursula coordinates our Mindfulness in Education programming. This includes leading mindfulness and yoga classes for children in preschool and elementary school settings, as well as workshops for educators about the benefits of mindfulness for themselves and their students. Ursula organizes Healthy Acadia’s Monthly Mindfulness Series, which invites local mindfulness leaders to share their knowledge and expertise with the community.
Ursula also leads Healthy Acadia’s Early Childhood Consultation and Outreach (ECCO) program for Hancock County. She provides support to educators, child care staff, and caregivers working with and/or raising children between the ages of 0 through 8. Through observations and consultations, effective strengths-based plans are developed to support children’s success across environments.

Gretchen provides coordination and support for Healthy Acadia's Recovery Coach Program in Washington County. She collaborates with local volunteers and partners across a variety of settings to help build a recovery-ready community with robust support systems.
Gretchen works to grow and strengthen the program and to encourage collaborative community engagement to help those who are seeking recovery. She provides ongoing support, continuing education, and program coordination for recovery coaches and actively recruits new volunteers to grow the program to meet the needs of the communities of Washington County.

Youth Engagement Coordinator

Corrie supports youth engagement programs and initiatives that build young people’s resilience and strengthen youth leadership on issues of public health, social justice, and restorative practices as part of the Statewide Maine Youth Action Network (MYAN). She provides mentorship and support for DownEast Teen Leadership Camp and school and community-based youth leadership groups across Washington and Hancock counties and co-facilitates District-level youth group and youth-adult partnership training as needed with Statewide MYAN Staff, youth and adults.
Corrie is passionate about elevating youth voices and is working to build and guide a regionwide public health youth policy board and serves as a mentor and ally for the Downeast Youth Action Team.

Eleanor coordinates a variety of food access programs across Hancock County that help to increase food security and access to healthy foods for all, including the Hancock County Gleaning Initiative, the Hancock County Food Drive, and the Maine Senior Farm Share Program.

Partnerships for Success Project Coordinator

Sara provides coordination for Healthy Acadia’s multi-year, federally funded Partnerships for Success (PFS) Initiative. “Downeast Maine Partnerships for Success,” is a collaborative effort among multiple partners across our region, coordinated by Healthy Acadia, that aims to prevent substance use and promote the health of youth. She works with parents, schools, communities, and regional partners to increase protective factors and reduce risk factors for alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana use in youth ages 9 to 20 years across Hancock and Washington counties.
Sara and project partners utilize multiple strategies, including the evidence-based Icelandic Model for youth substance prevention, tailored to the needs and opportunities in rural Downeast Maine.
Darlene Megno
Operations Manager
Darlene provides key organizational support providing general operation activities. Serving as an informed and welcoming presence, Darlene helps to organize office operations and procedures, coordinates staff wellness programs, and provides key support to maintain efficiency, productivity, and improve processes throughout the organization.
Darlene also assists with various projects that support organizational and programmatic capacity building for Healthy Acadia.

As a Community Health Navigator, Amanda supports the implementation of a system of care navigation through the HRSA PROSPER Initiative, serving individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) and their children from pregnancy through age eighteen, with a focus on the Passamaquoddy tribal community of Sipayik (Pleasant Point). She provides key support and partnership to the PROSPER Community Health Navigation team, working together with Consortium members and other partners to develop referral systems, provide education and outreach about PROSPER, provide in-depth navigation services and care coordination for clients, and coordinate education, training, and support groups for families and the community.

Mia fosters collaborative partnerships and delivers health promotion programs that prevent tobacco use, substance misuse, and substance addiction, with a focus on youth and young adults. She provides community outreach, education, and promotion of tobacco and substance use prevention resources for schools, municipalities, social service agencies, health care providers, and other venues across Hancock County. Mia delivers evidence-informed prevention lessons for schools and communities and promotes awareness campaigns and environmental strategies to reduce access to substances, including alcohol, marijuana, prescription drugs, and opioids across all venues.
Ashley Rier
Community Health Coordinator

Ashley supports community health programs through the Rural Community Health Improvement Partnership Project (R-CHIP) to address Health Related Social Needs, with a focus on housing insecurity for community members of Washington and Hancock counties. She works in support of the Downeast Housing Collaborative, where partnering organizations collaborate to identify and implement solutions for housing insecurity across the two county region.
Ashley also supports disaster relief and climate change resilience efforts in Washington County through StrengthenME. Her role is focused on community outreach and resiliency building, teaching coping strategies and providing resource navigation.

Dani Robbins
Community Health Coordinator- Hancock County

Dani works to support collaborative partnerships and deliver health promotion programs that prevent tobacco use, providing community outreach, education, and promotion of tobacco use prevention resources for schools, municipalities, social service agencies, health care providers, and other venues across Hancock County.
Dani also works within communities to provide resources and support for people directly impacted by storms, flooding, excessive heat, and other effects of climate change through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program.
Lauren Sachs
PROSPER Health Navigator / Recovery Response Coordinator

Lauren serves a dual role as Washington County’s Recovery Response Coordinator and PROSPER Health Navigator. As Recovery Response Coordinator, Lauren supports the implementation of a variety of activities through the HRSA Rural Community Opioid Response Program, providing key support around harm reduction initiatives including naloxone training; improving recovery supports; collaborating with community partners; providing navigation support to community members; participating as a member of Washington County’s Community Action Team; and conducting outreach in Washington County to help raise awareness and destigmatize substance use disorder.
As Community Health Navigator, Lauren provides system of care navigation through the HRSA PROSPER Initiative, serving individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) and their children from pregnancy through age three. Angela is a Recovery Coach serving through Healthy Acadia’s Maine Recovery Core Internship program. Angela offers recovery coaching and supports in in Franklin County.
Healthy Acadia’s Maine Recovery Core interns offer direct peer support with the aim of improving recovery success among individuals facing substance use disorders. In addition, interns build community awareness through outreach and education and develop local and regional recovery resources.
Organizations throughout the state serve as host sites for one or more Recovery Core interns who support clients within the service area of the host site. Host sites include healthcare centers, law enforcement sites, correctional facilities, community organizations, and others. Recovery Core interns are trained as recovery coaches to support individuals at various points along their recovery path and in a variety of settings.
Katie Sell
Community Health Coordinator - Washington County
Safe Harbor Recovery Residence Manager
Katie fosters collaborative partnerships and delivers health promotion programs that prevent tobacco use, substance misuse, and substance addiction, with a focus on youth and young adults. She provides community outreach, education, and promotion of tobacco and substance use prevention resources for schools, municipalities, social service agencies, health care providers, and other venues across Washington County.
As Manager of Safe Harbor, Katie provides oversight for residence staff, collaborates with project partners and community partners to empower residents to succeed in their recovery and to build community support for the residence program.
Katie delivers evidence-informed prevention lessons for schools and communities and promotes awareness campaigns and environmental strategies to reduce access to substances, including alcohol, marijuana, prescription drugs, and opioids across all venues.

Andrew is a committed youth ally who works to support and promote youth-focused and youth-led resiliency-building and substance use prevention programming and initiatives. His work focuses on efforts that strengthen youth leadership on issues of public health, social justice, and restorative practices across Hancock County.
Mike Smith
Technology Manager
Mike provides technical support on various systems and peripherals to our team, ensuring that we all have the technology and skills we need to support our work. Mike provides audio and visual support at events and off-site meetings, technical support and troubleshooting for hardware and software systems and equipment, and works to improve software systems to enable staff to work most effectively, cohesively, and efficiently across our service area.
Shoshona Smith

Shoshona is responsible for leading Healthy Acadia's Development Team, planning, organizing, and directing Healthy Acadia's fundraising including annual appeals, the major gifts program, planned giving, special events, and capital campaigns -- all to further our mission and maximize positive impact in our communities. She is also part of the team of grant writers amongst our staff.
Shoshona is passionate about bringing philanthropists, community partners, and the Healthy Acadia board and staff members together in conversations and planning to build community health now and long into the future.

Maine Recovery Core Program Director, RCP
As Program Director for the Maine Recovery Core (MRC), Kristé provides leadership, skills training, professional development, supervision, support for data collection, and technical assistance to MRC interns serving recovery centers and various other settings across, Aroostook, Franklin, Hancock, Kennebec, Knox, Penobscot, Piscatiquis, Somerset, Waldo, and Washington counties. Kristé strives to ensure the program's trained recovery coaches improve recovery success among individuals and their loved ones facing substance use disorders.

Audra assists our communications team in spreading the word across social media channels about the health and wellness programs and initiatives that Healthy Acadia implements and supports in the region and across the state. She also works to coordinate local and regional community outreach efforts to support health initiatives related to the post-COVID-19 emergency declaration unwinding process, including access to vaccination and other health resources.

As Co-Director for the Maine Alliance for Recovery Coaching (Maine-ARC) program, Terri provides overall leadership, building on Healthy Acadia’s highly successful Downeast Recovery Coach Program to expand the model to Piscataquis, Somerset, and Waldo counties, Maine. She provides training, supervision, and technical assistance for systems development, and support for data collection systems.
Terri ensures that Maine-ARC will implement effective, far-reaching volunteer-based peer recovery coaching programs and systems in a variety of settings that promise to build healthier communities and help people succeed in their recovery journeys.

Tara Young
Drug-Free Communities Program Coordinator - Hancock County

Tara coordinates the implementation of evidence-based strategies to effectively promote health and positive social development and prevent substance misuse. She serves as an information resource for the Drug-Free Communities Coalition and the community and fosters collaborative partnerships with local partners to reach program goals. Tara works with area schools, businesses, health care providers, and other non-profits to mobilize collective action resulting in policy and environmental supports that foster community resiliency and prevent substance misuse and addiction, including tobacco and illegal drug use, as well as alcohol and prescription drug misuse.

Nina Zeldin
Community Outreach Coordinator – Healthy Aging, Chronic Disease Prevention, and Health Promotion
Tai Chi for Health Institute Master Trainer
Nina provides support for multiple aspects of Healthy Acadia's work, including coordination and delivery of health promotion and disease prevention programs, community outreach, and program development. Nina coordinates and facilitates training for community members and service providers on a variety of health topics including Tai Chi for Health Institute programs, and promotion of the National Library of Medicine's public health resources. She also administers the You’ve Got a Friend and neighbor4neighbor grant programs.
Lucy Zwigard
Food Programs Coordinator
Washington County
Lucy provides leadership in all areas related to community food security in Washington County, including gleaning, community gardening, supporting farms and farmers’ markets, and working closely with food security organizations to provide community members all ages greater access to fresh and affordable food. Lucy coordinates efforts of the Downeast Gleaning Initiative in Washington County, provides supports to the Downeast Restorative Harvest program, and convenes the Washington County Food Pantry Network.
She also assists with regional food security efforts, including, but not limited to, Washington County Turkey-A-Thon, Senior Farm Share, and Farmers’ Markets, as well as statewide initiatives, such as Maine Network of Community Food Councils, Maine Farm to School Network, Maine Farm to School Network, Association of Gleaning Organizations, Ending Hunger in Maine by 2030, Maine Senior Farm Share, and others.
