Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
Thanks to the support of Healthy Acadia’s Downeast Partnerships for Success initiative, Corrie Hunkler, Healthy Acadia’s Youth Engagement Coordinator, and Matt Cornish, Camp Director with Camp Beech Cliff, are now certified Youth Mental Health First Aid instructors.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. The course explores typical adolescent development and common mental health challenges for youth and teaches a five-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.
If your school or organization is located in Washington or Hancock County and your staff is interested in this training, we are able to offer it free of charge for a limited time. Please reach out to corrie.hunkler@healthyacadia.org to learn more.
