Worried About Keeping Warm this Winter?

Are you worried about heating the cost of heating your home this winter? As the cost of heating our homes continues to rise, many Mainers are struggling to make ends meet as the weather turns colder.

You (or someone you know) may be eligible for assistance with heating costs through Maine’s Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) if your gross income is at or below the amount in this chart for your family size. You may be eligible for help with your heating costs, even if heat is included in your rent. HEAP is also connected to SNAP (food assistance) through what is called the“heat and eat connection.” If you receive SNAP benefits or assistance through TANF, you just need to show proof that you get that benefit to get HEAP, too. Conversely, applying for HEAP will help ensure that you’re getting the most SNAP benefits that you are eligible for and, may even make you eligible for SNAP benefits, if you are not already receiving them.

You may also be eligible for emergency help through the Energy Crisis Assistance Program (ECIP) And, there are other programs across the state that may be able to help you pay for electricity, weatherization of your home, and repairs to your heating system.

If you or someone you know is having trouble making ends meet this winter, Maine Equal Justice Partners can help you explore resources, answer common questions, and learn how and where to apply for assistance. Click here to learn more.
