Welcome, Lucy Zwigard

Please join us in welcoming Lucy Zwigard to the Healthy Acadia team!

Lucy joins us as Washington County Food Programs Coordinator.

Lucy comes to us with a background in cooking, farming, and homesteading. She holds a Master of Science in Agroecology from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and of Art in French from Tufts University, and is a Co-Founder of the Tufts Food Rescue Collaborative. Lucy also plays percussion and guitar and sings in the folk duos Sunchoke and Oatmeal Bear.

Since January, Lucy has been working closely with Washington County Food Programs Manager Regina Grabrovac to become familiar with the many projects that increase access to fresh food in our region. These include the Downeast Gleaning Initiative, the Downeast Restorative Harvest, Maine Senior Farm Share, the Food Pantry Network, and more.

With Lucy in her new role, Regina will shift the majority of her focus to the new Downeast Restorative Harvest program.

Lucy, what prompted you to join the Healthy Acadia team?

My decision to join the Healthy Acadia team was influenced by the great potential I see for connection, healing, and building community through healthy food and farming.

What most inspires you about Healthy Acadia's work?

In my role with Healthy Acadia, I am most inspired to learn about the needs of the communities that we serve and how my skills and perspective can serve to bolster and enliven our programs.

What most inspires you on a personal level?

On a personal level, I am most inspired by cultures and ways of life that respect and celebrate the beauty and richness of the land and waters on which they thrive.

What is your favorite thing to do, or place to be, in Maine, and why?

My favorite place to be in Maine is dipping and swimming in lakes, rivers and along the coast!

In my spare time, I enjoy veggie and flower gardening, baking sourdough bread and pizza (and enjoying it with family and friends!), doing fermentation projects (especially making delicious kombucha), and playing original folk music.

Originally from Aurora, New York, Lucy currently resides in Machiasport.
