Welcome, Gypsy Spyropoulos

Please join us in welcoming Gypsy Spyropoulos to the Healthy Acadia Team. Gypsy is a Recovery Coach with Healthy Acadia's Maine Alliance for Recovery Coaching program, serving individuals and families throughout Hancock County.

Gypsy attended Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC), where she earned a certificate in health science. Gypsy’s personal and family experiences with addiction and recovery, along with the experiences of friends and loved ones, have shaped her path. She continues to learn, strengthen her own recovery, and grow alongside the people around her.

Gypsy, what inspired you to join the Healthy Acadia team?

Healthy Acadia felt like the perfect opportunity to be part of something that aligns with my morals and values. I've never found happiness or fulfillment in work that feels repetitive or stagnant, and choosing a career path wasn't always easy for me.

Healthy Acadia is involved in so many different areas of community health, all with a clear purpose. This feels like a journey worth embarking on. I'm proud to be part of an organization that cares about the people and communities it serves, as well as the employees who make that work possible.

What interests or inspires you most about Healthy Acadia's work and your role?

I'm inspired by Healthy Acadia's commitment to growth, healing, and connection. I've had a roller coaster of a life, like so many others, and have faced my share of struggles. Even during my lowest moments, there were opportunities to grow and connections with others that gave me the strength to keep going.

I'm excited to be in a role where I can support people as they grow, recover, and continue healing along their own journeys.

What inspires you most on a personal level?

My own recovery was strengthened by seeing recovery happen with my own eyes. When I began attending treatment programs and AA/NA meetings, I saw people who were struggling with addiction make progress, grow, and succeed. Watching their journeys helped me believe in my own recovery.

Trust and faith didn't always come easily to me when I was younger, but seeing others move forward showed me what was possible. The unconditional love and support I received from people who simply wanted me to be OK also made a tremendous difference.

I believe deeply in peer support, not just in recovery but in life in general. I know how much it means to have someone beside you during a difficult time, and I believe in offering that same kind of support to others.

What's your favorite thing to do or place to visit in Maine?

I love exploring! Whether it's discovering a new hiking trail, visiting a beach, climbing a mountain, or trying a new restaurant, I'm always up for an adventure. Maine is such a beautiful state, with so much room to breathe and so many places to discover. I'm a spontaneous free spirit, so if there's music, fresh air, good food, and beautiful scenery, count me in!

What would you like our community to know about you outside of work?

I'm a mother of four amazing boys. They are my greatest challenge, my greatest teachers, my greatest accomplishment, and, of course, my greatest joy and love in life.

We also have a cat named Nacho! We love spending time together as a family, and getting outside is a must for us. Luckily, it's something we all enjoy.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to keep growing, connect with others, and be part of a community where we can support one another along the way.
