Welcome back, Juliana Wilson
Please join us in welcoming back Juliana Wilson to the Healthy Acadia team. Juliana previously served as an intern with Folklore Farm, a Healthy Acadia project in Washington County, and now joins us as a Food For All AmeriCorps VISTA in Washington County.
Juliana graduated from Elon University with a degree in Environmental and Sustainability Studies, concentrating in sustainable food production, with a minor in Anthropology and Environmental Education. Her experience includes working on small, organic farms and gardens focused on social justice, leading volunteers in cleanup and restoration projects, and teaching groups about factors that affect drinking water quality in their communities.
Juliana, what inspired you to join the Healthy Acadia team?
I was drawn to Healthy Acadia’s holistic view of health and its commitment to community-based solutions that address problems at their roots. I appreciate the focus on building healthier communities by understanding the many factors that affect people’s well-being.
What interests or inspires you most about Healthy Acadia’s work and your role?
I’m inspired by Healthy Acadia’s commitment to not only feeding our community, but also providing nourishing, healthy, locally grown food. In my role as a Food For All AmeriCorps VISTA, I support food access efforts across Hancock County, including harvesting, sorting, measuring, and distributing food through the gleaning initiative. I’m also excited to draw on my farming and community event coordination experience to develop useful projects and resource guides for community members, food security organizations, and other partners.
What inspires you most on a personal level?
I’m motivated by the opportunity to be an important link in our food system. I want to help prevent unnecessary food waste while making sure people who may not be able to afford healthy food have access to fresh, nourishing options.
What’s your favorite thing to do or place to visit in Maine, and why?
I love hiking and taking my time to identify plants and trees along the way. Learning about Maine’s native species helps me feel more connected to the land, its history, and its natural beauty.
