Weekly Book Club Brings Connection and Learning to Maine Recovery Core Interns
Healthy Acadia's Maine Recovery Core second-year interns gather every Friday afternoon for their weekly Leadership Book Club, fostering a vibrant atmosphere for learning and connection. Each week, a different member leads the group, bringing their creativity while developing essential facilitation and leadership skills. These engaging sessions extend beyond the book’s lessons, incorporating videos, interactive games, PowerPoint presentations, and enriching conversations directly related to their professional roles. It’s a wonderful blend of inspiration and growth and a fulfilling way to wrap up the week!
The current book being explored is Develop Your Leadership Superpowers: 50 Key Skills You Need to Succeed as a Leader by Dietmar Sternad and Eva Kobin.
Maine Recovery Core is a paid internship program focused on professional and workforce development and recovery coaching. Our trained recovery coaches provide vital support to individuals at all stages of recovery.
Maine Recovery Core evolved from Healthy Acadia’s unique three-year AmeriCorps/ Maine RecoveryCorps program launched in 2018. Recovery coaching positions that began as national service positions have been reimagined as paid internships. This new structure continues to be coordinated by Healthy Acadia and focuses on offering recovery support services in communities throughout Maine.
Maine Recovery Core interns are trained recovery coaches, offering direct peer support with the aim of improving recovery success among individuals facing substance use disorders. Healthcare sites, law enforcement sites, correctional facilities, and community organizations across northern and eastern Maine serve as host sites for one or more Recovery Core interns who support clients within the service area of the host site. Recovery Core interns are trained as recovery coaches to support individuals in various settings in all stages of recovery from substance use disorder.
Interns are provided with guidance, mentoring, support, professional development, public health experience, workplace immersion, skill building, and peer support. Recovery Core interns are currently serving in ten of Maine's sixteen counties.
Pay rate is $15/hour.
