Thanks to the Skin Room in Ellsworth!

For the past two months, The Skin Room in Ellsworth has been collecting donations for Healthy Acadia’s Recovery Backpacks Program. Last week we received a wonderful donation of several  backpacks from them, for which we are extremely grateful. THANK YOU, The Skin Room! Healthy Acadia’s Recovery Backpacks Program provides basic essentials to individuals in recovery from substance use disorder and working with Healthy Acadia's Recovery coaches. Backpack recipients include recoverees who are facing homelessness or have had to leave a situation in an urgent manner, and individuals that are just being released from jail who often have only the clothes they were wearing at the time of incarceration. Each backpack includes basic toiletries, personal hygiene items, new undergarments, socks, a pair of pants, a shirt, a pair of boots, and a coat.

Unfortunately, there are many times when individuals are released from jail with nothing. Recovery Backpacks help welcome the individuals back into their community by providing them with clothes and everyday items such as - soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, laundry detergent, shampoo/conditioner, and sometimes snacks and a water bottle. The Recovery Backpack Program is an important resource that has helped many.- Donations are always accepted and appreciated; this program is made possible by community support.
