Spreading the Word About Recovery Resources

Healthy Acadia Recovery Team members Donna Mitchell and Katie Sell had an opportunity to share recovery and harm reduction resource information with the residents and staff at Maine Correctional Center (MCC) in Windham at a resource fair held on September 15. The organizers of the event aim to help reduce recidivism, support reentry efforts, and share the plentiful resources available across the state.

Donna and Katie were thrilled to share information about recovery-related resources in Hancock and Washington counties, including opportunities to train to be a recovery coach, information on how to request a recovery coach, information about Safe Harbor Recovery Home for Women and Children, INSPIRE Recovery Center, and more.

Representatives from community serving organizations, colleges, and nonprofits from around the state were in attendance to share resources with over the more 100 current residents of the MCC and women's pre-release program.

Residents created handmade posters for each organization as well as name tags organizational representative.

The residents expressed appreciation for the supportive and unbiased presentation and recovery resource information provided to them. [This event] was also a great opportunity for organizations to network and collaborate to better serve our communities.
