Safe Harbor: Creating Opportunities for Growth and Change

Safe Harbor Residents and Children Go on a Whale Watch out of Eastport on the Ocean Odyssey

Thanks to generous community support, the team at Safe Harbor Recovery Home for Women and Children is creating opportunities for residents to make some exciting memories along their recovery journey. On September 25, residents of Safe Harbor Recovery Home for Women and Children went on a whale watch on The Eastport Windjammers.

The residents and children had a wonderful time on the water. The seas were a bit rough, but this was an experience that won't soon be forgotten. Minke whales were seen and a pair of Humpback were spotted, too. On the way back into Eastport the group viewed seals sunbathing on the islands and watched a lobster trap being hauled up. There was a lobster inside and everyone was able to hold the lobster!

The residents shared their comments about the experience (names have been withheld to protect privacy).

My children and I had a really great time. It was an amazing experience, life changing! Not only was it incredibly interesting and fun but it taught us patience and mindfulness. Something we will never forget and made me realize how much we should all appreciate the beauty of marine life.

It was an amazing experience for my son and me. It was something I probably would not have done without the encouragement of Safe Harbor and its fantastic affiliates!
