Free Workshop Will Explore Mindful Expression through Art
Maine – Community members are invited to participate in a free virtual wellness workshop, “Get Your Head Out of Your Art: A Mindful Practice to Free Your Creativity and Build Better Health,” on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 5 to 6 p.m. via Zoom. The event, part of Healthy Acadia’s Monthly Mindfulness series, will feature special guest Jen Maffett.
From relieving stress and anxiety to managing chronic conditions or healing from trauma, art can play a powerful role in improving health and well-being. Through mindful engagement with art, Maffett encourages participants to “get out of your head” and create without judgment—embracing the process rather than focusing on the product. The session will include simple exercises to spark creative energy and a discussion of the science behind how art supports healing.
Maffett holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and a Bachelor of Arts in Writing. Throughout her career in communications, she has integrated her passion for health and well-being—writing about it, building community around it, and supporting others through creative expression. She previously worked for one of the first online health information websites, helping expand public access to credible health resources and empowering individuals to make informed health decisions. To complement her work as a freelance health and wellness writer, she became a certified health counselor. Today, Maffett combines her love of art, words, food, and wellness by writing and illustrating on related topics and leading a weekly art discussion group at the Eastport Arts Center.
