More Than 150 Community Members Celebrate Winter at the Second Annual Frost Fair
Wow! What an incredible day! More than 150 community members joined Healthy Acadia, Friends of Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, and Refuge staff on Saturday, Feb. 7, for the second annual Frost Fair: A Winter Wildlife Fun Day at Moosehorn’s headquarters in Baring.
It was a picture-perfect winter day in Downeast Maine, with seasonal temperatures and just the right amount of snow to enjoy everything the outdoors had to offer. From start to finish, the Refuge was filled with laughter, movement, and opportunities to connect.
The day kicked off with the Snow Scamper run, walk, and snowshoe event, bringing participants of all ages out onto the snowy landscape. Guided winter nature walks with a Maine Master Naturalist offered a closer look at the beauty and resilience of wildlife in winter. Families enjoyed hay rides, sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and a winter wellness walk, while others took on the Refuge Adventurer Challenge along the Raven Trail. The smell of s’mores and hot dogs roasting at the bonfire added to the festive spirit and kept spirits warm between activities.
Inside, visitors made pinecone bird feeders, explored wildlife fur displays, and learned more about the work of Healthy Acadia and the Friends of Moosehorn. Free hot beverages, healthy snacks, and a warm lunch of chili and hot dogs helped fuel the fun throughout the day.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who came out to celebrate winter with us, as well as to our generous sponsors, Versant Power and Cobscook Shores, for helping make this free, all-ages event possible.
Thank you for making this year’s Frost Fair such a joyful success. We hope you enjoy the photo gallery below and look forward to seeing you next winter at Moosehorn!
