It's Farmers' Market Season

An array of fresh fruits and vegetables on display at a farmers’ market.

Farmers' market season is in full swing, and Healthy Acadia is dedicated to supporting and growing these markets across Hancock and Washington counties. We strive to increase awareness and access, particularly for those experiencing low income.

Our initiatives can help your local farmers' market become equipped to accept SNAP (formerly known as food stamps). Additionally, we collaborate with farmers' markets and vendors to facilitate participation in the Maine Harvest Bucks. program. This program allows SNAP recipients to shop at farmers’ markets, farm stands, and CSA’s using "nutrition incentives." These incentives increase the value of federal nutrition assistance dollars (SNAP/EBT) spent at participating markets. For every dollar spent on SNAP-eligible foods with a SNAP/EBT card, shoppers receive an extra "buck" in Maine Harvest Bucks, which can be spent on fruits and vegetables. These bucks can be used the same day or saved for later in the month or year.

Join us in celebrating the bounty of the season and supporting our local farmers! Use our map and flyers to find a farmers’ market near you!
