"Growing Good” at Cherryfield Elementary School

This week at Cherryfield Elementary, students worked alongside SNAP-Ed Educator Kirsten Tenney to kick-start their school garden. The sun was shining and the garden was filled with laughter and teamwork between all classes! Projects included weeding seven raised beds and filling them with much needed soil. Seedlings were also started, watermelon was a crowd favorite!

With much needed help from Coast of Maine’s “Growing Good” program and Seaside Landscaping & Garden Center in Gouldsboro, we were given 10 cubic feet of soil! Students, staff, and families of Cherryfield Elementary express much gratitude to both of these local organizations for their continued support of garden projects in our community.

If you, or someone you know, is working on a school garden project, please visit Coast of Maine’s “Growing Goodness” page for more information.

SNAP-Ed educators at Healthy Acadia offer year-round cooking and nutrition classes in partnership with schools and organizations throughout Hancock and Washington counties. To learn more or schedule a class, contact Kirsten in Washington County, or Nicole or Despe in Hancock County.
