We built a BARN! Well, actually, Isaiah Roberts and the amazing team at Picket Hill Land Services built it — and wow, is she a beauty! This new addition to our Downeast Restorative Harvest (DERH) Community Farm in Machias provides much-needed space for cleaning, drying, and storing crops from the field. It also offers shade and shelter for our hardworking volunteer crew, a place to host classes, meetings, and more!

Last week, we had the joy of soft-launching our new barn as a gathering space by hosting the Machias Area Community Supper— a free, twice-monthly event open to all. (2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, typically at the Centre Street Congregational Church of Machias) was a beautiful evening of shared food and connection, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to break in the space.

Our incredible intern from WCCC, Amethyst Curtis, beamed with pride alongside Lucy and the Picket Hill Land Services team on completion day, July 31st of this year.

Stay tuned for more gatherings at DERH Farm!

Our Volunteers keep putting the COMMUNITY in community Farm:

We truly couldn’t do it without you!

To our regular volunteers — thank you for your continued trust, steady presence, and the skills you bring to the farm week after week. Your knowledge and commitment are the roots that keep this place strong and growing

And to new volunteers — your enthusiasm, fresh energy, and willingness to jump in is always a welcomed addition to our crew! No experience needed, we will show you the ropes!

Together, we are cultivating more than crops — we’re so grateful to have you all in the field with us!
