Creating Smoke-Free Spaces - Jonesboro Grange #357
In September, The Jonesboro Grange #357 passed a smoke free policy. Healthy Acadia’s Katie Sell guided the organization’s board members through the policy development process and the Jonesboro Grange #357 was able to take advantage of the current mini-grant money available to businesses, organizations, and schools when creating a model policy.
The Jonesboro Grange hosts many community events throughout the year including; Lobster Festivals, Touch-a-Truck, craft fairs, public suppers, children's events, pet shows, run/walk events, exhibits, and more.
Board member Rebekah Hodgson recently shared why it was so important to her for the Jonesboro Grange #357 to create a smoke free policy.
"The no smoking policy at the Grange is very important to me as my father [Jonesboro Grange president John Cox Jr.] was diagnosed with bladder cancer in July 2020,” said Hodgson. “Like other cancers, bladder cancer can occur in smokers and non-smokers alike. This is one way we can help our patrons and visitors stay healthy and prevent them from going through a cancer diagnosis due to smoking like my father did.”
“I grew up in Jonesboro and never took interest in the local hall until about 2 years ago. Since that date I've realized what a huge asset it is to not only the town, but all of Washington County as only three Grange organizations remain here.
I am very thankful for our Jonesboro Grange members and all we've been able to accomplish. We've been awarded a Grange in Action Award from the National Grange and the Spirit of America Foundation Tribute award winner for our community service and volunteerism!
I encourage anyone who enjoys volunteering and serving the community, to come to one of our events and find out more about the Grange."
Please join the fun at The Jonesboro Grange will host their annual Halloween Spooktacular! on October 30, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check out their Facebook page for more details.
