If you're 70½ years of age or older, did you know you can make a powerful gift to Healthy Acadia directly from your IRA, and potentially reduce your taxable federal income at the same time? A subsequent law moved the minimum age to 73 or so. Your tax advisor can help but many stock fund managers also provide assistance calculating the required minimum amount. Your investments have had often many years to gain value. Each year your life expectancy is used to calculate the RMD for the following year.

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows you to transfer up to $108,000 each year (adjusted for inflation) directly from your traditional IRA, or similar investment vehicles, to a qualified nonprofit like ours tax-free. These gifts count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) and are not included in your adjusted gross income.  This offers an effective way to make a difference in the lives of community members served by Healthy Acadia, while also potentially lowering your federal income tax burden.
