Summer Meals
The Summer Food Service Program is a USDA nutrition program that ensures children are well fed during the summer months. As an extension of the National School Lunch Program (which provides free and reduced school meals to students who qualify), the Summer Food Service Program is federally-funded and state-administered program that provides nutritionally-balanced meals to children 18 years or under, free of charge. In addition to providing food, Summer Meal sites provide an opportunity to teach nutrition education, and provide physical activity, games, and tasting contests, all in a safe and fun supervised environment.
