Cultural Fusion Fest

The annual Cultural Fusion Fest is a free, family-friendly event open to all and invites both seasonal workers and year-round residents to come together in celebration of culture, community, and connection. The annual event, launched in 2024, takes place in May at YWCA MDI in Bar Harbor.

Mount Desert Island’s tourism economy relies on hundreds of seasonal workers each year, many of whom come from Caribbean nations to support their families back home. While they play an essential role in the local economy, these workers can face long hours, limited visibility in the broader community, and challenges accessing resources.

Cultural Fusion Fest was created to help bridge these gaps. Organized by a collaborative group of local nonprofits, businesses, and former seasonal workers who now call MDI home, the event aims to foster a sense of belonging, strengthen community ties, and celebrate the diversity that enriches the region.

Designed as a vibrant cultural exchange this annual event highlights Jamaican and Caribbean culture through traditional food, live music, and interactive activities. Attendees can also enjoy hands-on activities, including opportunities to learn and play dominoes and other popular Caribbean games.

Information tables hosted by local nonprofits and businesses offer resources for seasonal workers who are new to the community, including connections to transportation, food access, health services, and more.

Since its launch, Cultural Fusion Fest has drawn strong community participation, with more than 300 attendees in past years representing both seasonal and year-round residents.
