Downeast Cancer Patient Navigation Program

According to Maine's 2016 Annual Report of Cancer, Washington County has the highest cancer mortality rate of any county in the state. In response, since 2017, Healthy Acadia has partnered with the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center to offer the Downeast Cancer Patient Navigation Program to residents of Washington County, Maine.

This program provides personalized cancer care and resource navigation, as well as cancer prevention education and early detection services, to communities throughout the region. Our dedicated cancer patient navigator works closely with individuals facing a cancer diagnosis, helping them navigate the healthcare system, social services, and community resources to access essential diagnostic, treatment, recovery, support, and financial services. All navigation services are confidential, compassionate, and provided at no cost to patients.

Cancer patient navigators bring a wealth of experience in managing complex healthcare systems. They assist not only patients but also their families and caregivers throughout the entire cancer journey, helping to streamline the treatment process and making it more manageable.

By working directly with both patients and healthcare providers, navigators ensure timely access to quality care, empower patients to take control of their health, and ultimately improve outcomes while reducing mortality rates.

Cancer patient navigators help facilitate communication between patients and healthcare teams, answer questions about care expectations, coordinate appointments and treatments, provide reminders, and arrange care across providers. They also offer emotional support, tobacco cessation classes, counseling, and more, creating a dependable system of support for every step of the way.
