What influenced your decision to join the Healthy Acadia team?
I have collaborated with Healthy Acadia especially in Substance Use Disorder work over the past couple of years. My work with the Maine Highlands Investment Partnership, AKA Helping Hands with Heart, is a coalition group of members in Piscataquis "Plus" County that works with the unique needs of individuals and families in the five school districts of Piscataquis County. I took the lead on Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery, and Workforce Development. I have always enjoyed the work of Healthy Acadia and its commitment to empowering people and communities, as we know healthy communities create abundant lives!
What most inspires you about this work?
Gathering, collaborating, communicating, co-facilitating with individuals and groups. I like to teach as well as being taught. Your life will always evolve as you learn new things. My favorite part of work is boots on the ground and being in the arena (Winston Churchill). That is what inspires me.
What most inspires you on a personal level?
Healthy vibrant communities, healthy food, healthy forests, clean air, clean water, agriculture and wildlife, having great friends and family, and a solid spiritual foundation. On a personal level, I am always seeking, learning, and very curious about how I may better myself, continue to grow, and achieve a balance in every aspect of my life.
What is your favorite thing to do, or place to be, in Maine, and why?
I love every part of Maine and I do travel and stay all around it. Each town is unique and special in its own way. The rivers, lakes, and mountains are superb! The coastal towns and ocean views are my favorites! I love blueberries and Whoopie pies. I enjoy reading books at the beach, at the lake, at camp, and on my porch with a good cup of coffee or tea!
Georgia hails from Maine’s Moosehead Lake Region and is a long-time resident of Piscataquis County. She currently resides in Monson.
