These Youth Groups are Making a Real Difference in their Communities

Two youth-led groups are making significant strides in promoting health and well-being in Washington County!

Positive Youth Team (PYT)

Princeton Elementary's middle school PYT group is a shining example of youth activism. They're focused on improving their school environment and creating more opportunities for active play. Currently, they're raising funds to purchase new basketball rims and backboards to enhance their court and encourage more students to participate in sports. The group is also working on modifying their gaga pit to ensure it's accessible and enjoyable for all students, regardless of ability.

Vape Busters

Vape Busters is a passionate group of local youth in Calais dedicated to educating their peers and community about the dangers of vaping. They're taking a multi-faceted approach to raise awareness, including hosting fun events like a recent kickball game in Calais. They're also advocating for community-wide policy change, with a presentation to the Calais City Council on June 13th at 6:00 PM where they'll share their research findings and recommendations for vaping prevention strategies. They are also planning an engaging evening manhunt game at the Calais Athletic Complex to promote healthy, active alternatives to vaping.

Healthy Acadia applauds the hard work and dedication of both PYT and the Vape Busters. These young people are true leaders, inspiring their peers and making a lasting positive impact on our community.
