Super Citrus

For nearly a year now, Healthy Acadia’s SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educators have been creating fun, educational videos for K-3 students across Washington and Hancock counties.

These “Pick a Better Snack” lessons teach students about a variety of fruits and vegetables. This month, our educators are exploring the wonders of citrus fruits.

Check out educator Nicole Gurreri’s Citrus Fruit Lesson Video, or read on for a few citrus facts:

  • Citrus fruits really brighten up the winter season with their burst of color and flavor, They are also high in Vitamin C, an essential vitamin for immune function and skin health. Citrus fruits also contain fiber, which promotes digestive health.

  • Citrus is in peak season right now! Much of the citrus fruit we buy was grown in Florida, Arizona, California, and Texas.

  • February is a great month to try a rainbow of citrus fruits! Increase your fruit intake this month with a tangy blood orange, a puckery grapefruit, or a sweet, easy-to-peel clementine.
