Walk for Recovery Set for Sept. 18 in Machias
MACHIAS, Maine — Community members are invited to come together for the 2026 Annual Walk for Recovery on Friday, Sept. 18, to celebrate people in recovery, honor families and recovery allies, and show support for individuals and communities impacted by substance use.
Hosted by the Washington County Community Action Team, the annual walk will begin at 6 p.m. at the Machias Bay Area Chamber of Commerce lawn. Participants will gather at the Chamber office, where they will have an opportunity to create signs sharing what they are walking for and carry their messages along the route.
The walk will head down Main Street and conclude at Bad Little Falls, where participants will gather to hear from local speakers and reflect on the strength, hope, and resilience found throughout the recovery community.
The event brings together people in recovery, families, recovery allies, and community members who want to stand alongside their neighbors and help build a community where recovery is supported and celebrated.
“Recovery touches all of us,” said event organizers. “This walk gives our community a chance to come together, lift the voices and experiences of people in recovery, honor the families and loved ones who walk alongside them, and remind one another that hope and recovery are possible.”
Participants are encouraged to bring their own messages of support and create a sign at the Chamber before the walk. Signs may honor a loved one, celebrate a personal recovery journey, recognize the importance of recovery allies, or share a message of hope for the community.
The Walk for Recovery takes place every September as part of National Recovery Awareness Month and is an opportunity to reduce stigma, strengthen connections, and make recovery visible throughout Washington County.
Community members are invited to join the Washington County Community Action Team and recovery community in celebrating recovery and showing that no one has to walk the journey alone.
No registration is required.
