Recovery Awareness Walk to Celebrate Recovery and Support Our Community

ELLSWORTH, Maine — Community members are invited to come together on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, from 1-3 p.m., for a Recovery Awareness Walk celebrating recovery, honoring the strength of people on their recovery journeys, and showing support for individuals, families, and communities impacted by substance use and recovery.

The walk will take place at 1 p.m. at Knowlton Park in Ellsworth, with participants gathering under the gazebo behind the playground. An event table will be available for check-in, water, and information about recovery resources in the community.

The walk will begin at Knowlton Park, travel up Main Street, and return down Main Street to the park. The approximately one-half-mile route is designed to be welcoming and accessible, providing an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to participate.

Participants will also have the opportunity to create and carry signs sharing why they are walking and what they are supporting. These personal messages can highlight the many reasons people come together to celebrate recovery, including honoring loved ones, supporting people currently on their recovery journeys, and recognizing the hope, resilience, and positive change that recovery can bring.

“Recovery is something our whole community can celebrate and support,” said Maegan Graslie, Healthy Acadia's Maine Alliance for Recovery Coaching Recovery Coach Coordinator in Hancock County. “This walk is an opportunity to come together, reduce stigma, build connection, and remind one another that recovery is possible and no one has to walk the journey alone.”

Everyone is welcome. Participants may be personally in recovery, supporting a loved one, have been impacted by substance use, work in the recovery community, or simply want to stand alongside their neighbors.

No registration is required.

Community members are encouraged to join the walk and help create a visible message of hope, connection, and support for recovery in Downeast Maine.
