Healthy Acadia - Piscataquis County is Recruiting Recovery Core Interns

Dover-Foxcroft. The Dover-Foxcroft office for the Maine Alliance for Recovery Coaching, located at The Commons at Central Hall, is pleased to be continuing their program with Healthy Acadia to provide Maine Recovery Core opportunities in Piscataquis County. Maine Recovery Core is a professional development internship program focused on expanding recovery coaching to strengthen recovery support services and to improve recovery success among individuals facing substance use disorders, with an emphasis on opioid use disorders.

Maine Recovery Core evolved from Healthy Acadia’s unique three-year AmeriCorps/ Maine RecoveryCorps program launched in 2018. Recovery coaching positions that began as national service positions have been reimagined as paid internships. This new structure continues to be coordinated by Healthy Acadia and focuses on offering recovery support services in communities throughout Maine. Maine Recovery Core interns offer direct peer support with the aim to improve recovery success among individuals facing substance use disorders. In addition, interns build community awareness through outreach and education and develop local and regional recovery resources.

Organizations throughout the state serve as host sites for one or more Recovery Core interns who support clients within the service area of the host site. Host sites include healthcare sites, law enforcement sites, correctional facilities, community organizations, and others. Recovery Core interns are trained as recovery coaches to support individuals at various points along on the recovery path and in various settings.

Piscataquis County is one of several Maine locations hosting interns for the 2021 - 2022 service term which runs from September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2022. The Dover-Foxcroft office is currently recruiting for one, 12-hour/week intern position. Recovery Core interns will engage in recovery coaching, an innovative form of peer-to-peer recovery support. Recovery Core interns will serve as personal guides and mentors for people seeking recovery, helping them remove barriers and navigate systems to meet their treatment, wellness and recovery support goals. They will also play an important role in providing outreach and education in their communities about recovery and the value of recovery coaches. Recovery Core interns have typically experienced substance use disorder and recovery either directly themselves or through someone close to them.

“Maine Recovery Core offers a unique opportunity for individuals to support their community in meaningful and impactful ways, while also developing their own professional toolbox. Many of our interns have used this experience as catalysts to enter the field of recovery support work as professionals. It is an honor to support the growth and development of this program,” said Paige Johnston, Recovery Core Program Director. “The braiding together of peer support and paid professional development opportunities is producing stronger recovery communities all over the state.”

For information on how to apply for a Recovery Core internship position, visit www.healthyacadia.org, contact Program Director, Paige Johnston at paige@healthyacadia.org, or apply here. Applications will be reviewed immediately and will continue to be accepted until positions are filled.
