Healthy Acadia and Barn Arts Offer Free Theater Workshops at Local Libraries

2025 Shakespeare full cast.

MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, Maine - Healthy Acadia and Barn Arts invite young people to explore the world of theater through Witches in the Wild, a free, interactive workshop created by local theater-maker and educator Andrew Simon.

The workshop will be offered on April 16 at the Jesup Memorial Library in Bar Harbor and on May 14 at the Southwest Harbor Public Library. Both sessions are open to students in grades 4–8 and will run from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Witches in the Wild introduces participants to the characters, themes, and events of William Shakespeare’s supernatural tragedy, Macbeth. Through group activities and ensemble theater techniques, students will explore Shakespeare’s language and work together to bring the play’s opening scene to life.

The workshops are offered in advance of rehearsals for the Middle School Shakespeare Project, now in its fourth year. This collaborative program brings together students from across Hancock County to create and perform a full production. Both the workshop and the production are open to any young people interested in creative expression and teamwork.

This program builds on Healthy Acadia’s commitment to supporting youth resilience and social-emotional learning. Through mindfulness, creativity, and collaboration, participants strengthen peer connections and build confidence in a supportive environment.

Workshops are free, but space may be limited. For more information or to register, contact Andrew Simon at andrew.simon@healthyacadia.org
