Free Series Introduces Young Children to Healthy Habits
Machias. Healthy Acadia is partnering with Porter Memorial Library in Machias, located at 92 Court Street, to offer, Eat Well, Play Hard, a free lesson series from Maine SNAP-Ed designed to teach young children aged 3-5 years about healthy eating and the importance of regular physical activity. The series aims to increase the number of fruits and vegetables young children eat, encourage intake of low-fat or fat-free dairy options, and increase the time they spend being physically active.
Healthy Acadia Maine SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educator Shannon Cherry will offer four Eat Well, Play Hard lessons at the library this spring. The lessons will be scheduled during a selected story time each month, from March to June. Each session will include a story, explore a new food, and a healthy food-centered activity. The first session will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 11 a.m., during story time at the children's library.
Healthy Acadia’s Maine SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educators offer year-round cooking and nutrition classes in partnership with schools and organizations throughout Hancock and Washington counties.
