ME-RAP Youth Caucus Welcomes Spring at Safe Harbor
Contributed by Katie Sell, CADC, Community Health Coordinator, Manager, Safe Harbor-Recovery Home for Women and Children
In April, the Maine Recovery Access Project (ME-RAP) Youth Caucus brought joy and connection to families at Safe Harbor Recovery Residence with a fun-filled spring celebration. Youth participants visited Safe Harbor with cotton candy, popcorn, face painting, and Easter eggs hidden throughout the property for children to discover, each filled with small surprises and treats. The morning was filled with laughter, smiles, and meaningful moments shared by children, moms, staff, and ME-RAP youth volunteers alike.
Events like these help create positive memories and strengthen community connections for families in recovery. The visit reflected the care, compassion, and commitment that the ME-RAP Youth Caucus brings to communities across Maine.
The Maine Recovery Access Project (ME-RAP) is a grassroots recovery community organization led by people with lived and living experience of substance use and recovery, including family members and allies.
The ME-RAP Youth Caucus is made up of young people who are in recovery, have loved ones in recovery, have experienced loss due to overdose, or are involved in harm reduction efforts. The group works together on projects including food drives, community events, and legislative advocacy, all focused on supporting recovery and reducing stigma.
Young people interested in getting involved with the ME-RAP Youth Caucus and supporting recovery efforts in their communities can learn more by visiting the ME-RAP website.
Safe Harbor Recovery Residence is the only certified recovery residence in Washington County serving women and their children. Operated through a partnership among Healthy Acadia, Community Caring Collaborative, and AMHC, Safe Harbor provides a supportive environment where women can build stability and continue their recovery journey. Residents receive support connecting with employment opportunities, community resources, and recovery services.
