Stay Healthy During Cold & Flu Season

Temperatures are dipping, winds are blowing, and kids are back in school - all signs that cold and flu season has arrived! Our Maine SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educators have a few tips to help you keep yourself and your loved ones healthy and happy during the autumn season.

Our favorite cozy tip is to stay warm with some yummy homemade soup or soothing tea! Try this black bean vegetable soup for a burst of warming spices like garlic, cumin, and chili powder.

Another proven immune-booster is gentle exercise, like walking, yoga, or tai chi. Even a 10-minute walk outside will stimulate your lymphatic system, produce feel-good endorphins, and improve your mood. Be sure to dress in warm layers, and if you’re walking at night, add a reflective vest or carry a flashlight for visibility.

SNAP-Ed educators at Healthy Acadia offer year-round cooking and nutrition classes in partnership with schools and organizations throughout Hancock and Washington counties. To learn more or schedule a class, contact Allie or Kirsten in Washington County, or Nicole or Despe in Hancock County.
