Helping New Moms Prosper

Substance use during pregnancy is associated with risks of harm for both the fetus/infant and mother. Women with substance use disorder who are pregnant or parenting often encounter a number of barriers when seeking help. They may feel negatively judged by others, have little or no access to mental health supports, and be fearful of intervention by child protective services. They may also be navigating other challenges, including access to prenatal care, their partner's substance use, housing insecurity, limited transportation, employment security, lack of child care, and more.

Healthy Acadia's PROSPER Navigators provide compassionate guidance and resources to help pregnant women living with substance disorders achieve a healthy pregnancy and birth outcome.

PROSPER is a collaborative initiative that offers support and resources for pregnant women/women who recently gave birth and who have substance use disorder. Ursula and Sonya, our Community Health Navigators, provide compassionate, person-centered navigation, mentoring, education, care coordination, advocacy, referrals, and overall support.
